What is deep tech exactly? Deep tech is still entrepreneurship, but entrepreneurship based on scientific research. So it's all about scientists turning their scientific innovation into businesses. What that means is that deep tech can encompass anything from space technology to biotechnology, semiconductors to new materials. The starting point is always the same, science and frontier technology. So why is deep tech important today? One of the big challenges we face now is seeing the limits of our current system. in resources, in energy, in the impacts that all of our current activities are. And so what DeepTech provides is a potential for fundamental transformation. For example, in a world where we cannot use oil anymore, finding new alternative sources of material for chemistry or for any type of surrounding equipment is one of the solutions that DeepTech can provide. So in Europe today, we know we have some of the best scientists in the world and we produce some of the best research there is. But Europe still struggles to transform all of this science into meaningful companies at a significant scale. And we know part of the challenge is really one of collaboration. Successful deep tech requires a full ecosystem. It requires really science to work with big corporation as client of the science. It requires a healthy investment ecosystem. It requires progressive regulation. And what we see at the moment is the aim of trying to align all of those stakeholders to make sure that deep techs work at a full ecosystem and not as siloed entities. So why is HCC involved in deep tech? One of the big reasons is that the most important ingredient for deep tech success is time. It takes time to build all of the science-based companies. And so what we try to do here is to be a platform for connecting the different stakeholders. So we connect the scientists with the big corporation. We connect entrepreneurs with investors. And by bringing everyone around the same table, we hope that everything moves faster and that we can be more ambitious and aim bigger. So what should you care about deep tech and what do we care about deep tech? The answer is simple. That The resources of tomorrow, what guarantees 1 country's autonomy and sovereignty, will not be necessarily natural resources anymore, but will be technological knowledge, know-how, and infrastructure. And so this is why today what we are building is the future of the sovereignty of France, of Europe, and our ability to maintain a decent standard of living.
